VitaProva

Safeguards

Calorie tracking helps some people and harms others. That is documented, not hypothetical, and it shaped how this app was built rather than being added at the end.

Why this page exists

In a clinical sample of people being treated for eating disorders, most had used a calorie-tracking app, and most of those said it had contributed to their condition. We are building in that category. We cannot make a tracking app risk-free, but we can refuse the designs that make it worse, and we can be open about which those are.

What we do

  • 18+ only. VitaProva is not offered to under-18s.
  • Daily goals have a floor set by a clinician — not a number an engineer picked. The app will not accept a goal below it.
  • You can turn the calorie numbers off entirely and keep logging. The food diary works without a single number on screen.
  • No streaks, no leaderboards, no comparison with other people. Nothing in VitaProva rewards you for logging every day or punishes you for stopping.
  • Non-punitive wording throughout. No "over budget", no red warnings, no language that treats food as a moral matter.
  • No projections about your body in the app or in our marketing. We will not forecast a future body weight for you, or set a date against one.
  • Psychoeducation at onboarding on what a range means, how portions vary, and what healthy eating looks like.
  • A visible helpline, by region, in settings and wherever goals are set.

What stays on your phone

The checks behind these safeguards run on your device. If the app notices a pattern that triggers one, that fact is never sent to us — it is not in our telemetry, there is no field for it, and our server would reject it. We cannot see who triggered a safeguard, and we designed it that way on purpose.

If you need support

If your relationship with food or with tracking is causing you distress, these organisations help people directly and are independent of us.

United States
National Alliance for Eating Disorders — Helpline staffed by licensed clinicians.
United Kingdom
Beat — The UK's eating disorder charity, with helplines and online support.

These are external organisations. We link to them because they are the right people to talk to, not because they endorse VitaProva.

Clinician review

the review statement from the clinician with eating-disorder expertise who signs off our safeguards, the goal floors, the copy rules and the helpline triggers. It will be published here, with their name and the date, before VitaProva is released. Until then this section is deliberately empty: we are not going to imply a review that has not happened.

If you think we have got this wrong

Tell us. Get in touch — including if a piece of wording in the app landed badly. That is useful to us and we would rather hear it.
